I saw Steve about six weeks ago. He said the Rugbys have finally quit playing, and he had lost his voice. Eddie Vernon was the keyboard player. He could do a spot on James Brown.

Correct me if I misheard, but I had to work this morning (non-radio) and they had the radio tuned to WASE. It was hard to hear, but I could have sworn they said something about the Super 79 in conjunction with a spot for Mike Harvey and Super Gold... ...or do I just have WAKY on the brain?

WAKY gets a mention on there from time to time.

I was listening to 98.3 this weekend and they had a great oldies show. I can't remember what the name of it was but it was good. Max, didn't you work there one time? Is it in Etown?

What and where is 98.3?

98.3 is WQXE in Elizabethtown. And yes, they do have an excellent show at noon during the week called, appropriately, 'Lunchtime with the Oldies'. I was not aware of a weekend show, but you're probably correct.

In Frankfort there is an AM station that plays oldies all day long. It is 1490 AM and they call it "Hometown Radio". It was great listening to old 60's and 70's tunes on AM. It holds a pretty good signal into the outskirts of Louisville.

Had the pleasure of hearing Steven Lee Cook's show (I'd been misspelling his name all this time!) this afternoon on Kool 103.5 and the man is polished! His delivery is very smooth and no-nonsense. One should not be surprised at this, given he came from good stock (WAKY, what else?). Like someone else said on this thread in an earlier post, it's a bit of a shame we don't hear more of him!

The Weekend Warrior was fun to hangout with back in '72 at the Big 79. Steve was 19 and I had turned 18 and we were like a couple of kids in the WAKY studios. Steve had so much energy on the air and liked to crank the monitor whenever a favorite song (usually an oldie) was played. He did overnights on the weekends, in somewhat of a rotating manner with Michael Lewis Griffin and the late great Jim Miller (aka Mark "the spark" Anderson on WTMT).
Often when a really great tune was playing, we would act real silly by standing in our chairs, whooping & hollering over the loudness of WAKY's external monitor. The winos in front of the showcase studios would just look in on us with envy because they obviously wanted a shot of whatever they thought we had had.
Okay, so I made that last line up. Sue me.
Anyway, those were the days (Mary Hopkin - 1968) and it was good to see Steven Lee Cook at both reunions after so many years. WASE has got to get streaming audio.

First of all, I am the poster formerly rjc, but had a major computer malfunction, and have been offline for the nearly a year. "Coop" was my nickname as a teen, and is the name I will use here until, I can retrieve my password.
On the the WRKA vs WASE debate...I have to go with WASE. While WRKA was a much better oldies staion when they first went fulltime oldies( it was 89' or 90), today WRKA is a mere shell of that station the went oldies some 16 or 17 years ago. I sware that they have cut their playlist by half. WRKA would do well to go off air for a weekend, and come back on monday morning with a totally retooled oldies format.
WASE on the other hand feels like a station from 60's and 70's, the jingles, the jocks the newsliners has an oldies feel to it. In my mind, WASE blows WRKA off the air by a mile, not even close.

WELCOME BACK, RJC!! We've certainly missed ya!! Thanks Max, I thought about the sites last week when I was at the fair and a guy was wearing one of the WAKY-WKLO T-shirts. Plus right after my computer went poof (I think bruiser may be responsable for that ) last year, some folks asked me about my shirt, I told them where to go to get one, but not sure the ever made it.

That's right, I am now working for Clear Channel, and we are planing to turn this site into "Cards Radio 790 WKRD". (Just joking John) I went to KM and it looks kinda dead there, what's up with that?

KM got hacked a couple of times, and was down for several weeks. A lot of peeps didn't come back when it was resurrected. It's showing signs of reviving.
