To set the record straight. Mad Man Mac was played by Lou Bandy, from Louisville. He only did the commercials he did not own Sun TV. Lou also was the first Ronald MacDonald in Louisville. Lou lived in New Albany and was active with the Clarksville Little Theater. His daughter is Susan and she was the first Queenie Bee. Susan is still in Louisville. I worked with Lou Bandy at the time he was doing all of this.

Where does Smith Furniture factor into all of this? "Is it a rock concert? NO, it's Smith Furniture..."!

What a fantastic thread on a site just discovered today !!
Am a long time resident of Austin, Texas but Lville is still " home" and still visit often.
Random thank yous to the memories regenerated in this thread !!
All the movies I saw and JUNK i bought at Raceland and Westland mall !! ( Played a studio 2 video game while my mom shopped at Britt's in R-mall.. bout a lot of Albums and 45s there.. especially tons of Elvis right after he died. )
In terms of movie theaters.. every time I visit I STILL cannot believe there is nothing in the old showcase cinemas on bardstown road.. and I still every time I see the ( closed?) Salvation Army across the street from the Preston street Sam's Club.. I remember the Preston drive-in .. the first place I ever remember seeing a movie !!
And re: majik market..
There was one on Old Shep rd. that is now a comic book place.. close to where my family still lives. My Dad ( who will be passed away a year this week ) when he worked 2nd shift would get me out of my bed to take me there in my pajamas just to spend a little time with me when I was pre-school age. ( Not preschool age. HA) He smoked Old Gold's then. Also in a true Ky. stereotype, I remember how subversive ( didn't know that word as a three yr. old then of course. HA) it felt that said Majik market was the first place I would go reg. not wearing any shoes.
( Anyone remember these old stores too.. GES, Arlans, Topps, Gibson's..? These were shopping memories from the same time as well.)
Thanks to everyone who created this board for me to find.

The original business that went up where the Preston Drive In was at, was a home improvement store. Maybe a Home Crafters or Home Quarters.
There was a GES on Crittenden Dr., Arlan's on 7th near Berry and on Preston, and I think one in Clarksville.

Arlan's on preston and the GES on Crittenden were the ones closest to my parents house that we went to... Topps was on Outer Loop

Sun TV and Burger Queen Commercials were pervasive on channel 41. It might be that the station wouldn't have made it without them. Mac wanted to give the TV's away but MrsG1997's mom wouldn't let him. I worked at channel 41 in 1971 when it came on the air and again in 1977-79. It was an accepted fact (whether true or not) that Queenie Bee (let's follow Queenie Bee it's Burger Queen for me!) was Mad Man Mac's daughter, is this for real true, or not? Thanks Mad Man, Thanks Queenie Bee. Queenie Bee was played by an actress named Joyce Murphy. I played alongside her at Heritage Theater at the Jewish Community Center. She was a wonderful person but as I recall, hated doing that--- but a gir;s' gotta eat, right? I think she retired and moved to Ohio.
