When I originally contacted Johnny Randolph a few years ago to begin what would become the one-hour "WAKY Remembered" profile, I learned that JR didn't have any airchecks from his WAKY days. Evidently they were lost (or "tossed") sometime in the 70s by his soon-to-be ex-wife Connie.
Well, guess where the airchecks I posted today on 79WAKY.com and 1080WKLO.com came from? They were rescued from Connie's trash can by Ray Redman.
Unfortunately Ray misplaced the original tapes in the process of getting his home ready to sell (there are more audio goodies besides the one CD he sent me) but hopefully they will turn up and there will more from Connie's can -- er, trash can, of course -- in the months to come.
What I haven't posted yet -- mainly because I don't know where to put them -- are two mid-60s audio interviews with the Animals and J. Frank Wilson conducted in Columbus, Ohio by Dale Wright for Johnny's Middletown, Ohio radio show. (Dale Wright, who besides having a very modest national pop music career, spent years in the Lexington area as a radio talk show host.)

Wow. Recordings from WPFB in Middletown, Ohio. I believe that is where Johnny Randolph got his start in radio as he worked his way through college. I wrote a post back in 2005 pertaining to a couple of teens that hung out with Johnny during his show. He would let them in through a window on the farmhouse radio station. Years later, one of them wound up working with me here in Venice, Florida. I wrote the post as a "small world" kind of story.
