We received this e-mail from Shawn Wilson on March 19, 2009:
Does WAKY think it will ever get back the 790 AM spot it had? I know that 790 is currently used for sports by Clear Channel's WKRD. I guess Clear Channel would have to give up that frequency and move to another or get a good offer to let WAKY have it back. I guess the cost of having to maintain a second frequency and transmitter equipment would also factor in to it as well. I guess I am just curious because that frequency was the original one it was on. I love listening to it on FM 103.5. I don't know if AM is as popular as FM now because I don't know how many people listen to an AM station versus an FM station these days, but I am glad WAKY came back, no matter what frequency it is on, and that it is going by what I remember as the original format. I hope it never has to end again because it is one of the few things that reminds me of what the old days were like and the appreciation for it. Glad WAKY came back!
So, what do you think? Do you think that, if Clear Channel decided to sell 790, that the current owners of WAKY should grab it for a simulcast of the existing FM signal?

Shawn, WAKY on 790, I think it would be great. I think that would be a great idea for 103.5 to do that. CC would have to give up the frequency. They would still have 1080, which also has a healthy signal, to put the sports WKRD on. If WAKY would go back on 790, would CC try to get the WKLO call letters back for 1080? That would be something and really bring back the memories.

Easy, Easy, People. WAKY back on 790?? Let's not get too carried away here. If that were to happen what would be next? Would there be a call to acquire the nail salon (Perfect Nails) on Fourth Street and return WAKY's studios to that location? Others, such as Ben Pflederer, might even call for WAKY to be returned to its original studios in the Kentucky Home Life Building.
This could all become so insane. ;D
By the way, Happy (belated) Birthday to Ben Pflederer (aka Rudy) who endured yet another birthday on March 5th. If the Weird Beard were still with us he would have endured his 64th birthday on March 6th.
I really shouldn't use the word "endured" because if the Weird Beard were here he'd probably say:
"When it comes to "enduring" yet another birthday, you know what?"
"What?"
"That's probably not such a bad thing."

It's fine by me, CC can move the KRD to one of its FM stations, sell 790 to WAKY, pump it full of compression, work on the transmitter some. and it'd be funny if it pulled over the FM listeners..I would myself because I like things they way I think they should be. (uhh)
They can sell WHAS too and somehow, move them back into the WHAS-TV building. I'm getting ahead of myself with the wishful thinking.

So if WHAS is moving back to the TV building, can WAMZ be far behind? Will we change the call letters back to WHAS-FM and put classical music on? I like it.
As for my opinion of CC, what a waste of radio spectrum.
