John Schuler of Louisville sent us this on March 27, 2009:
I am happy to see the complimentary information and airchecks for Burt Markert on your site. I think you are missing a lot of information, though, about his musicianship.
Burt was and excellent, and I mean excellent, drummer. We played together in a number of different groups in many different styles, and Burt was always dead-on, rock solid, intuitive, creative and not intrusive.
I spent several months playing bass with Burt and the late Hester Matthews as a piano trio at Dutch's and elsewhere, maybe the most rewarding musical experience I ever had.
He was also just a good human being. I'm no one of note, but Burt was, musically and personally.
When his marriage failed and he lost his boy, everything changed; I don't think I ever had another conversation with him after that.

"Old" friends from the WAKY era knew me as "Betty", though it sounds foreign to me now!

Mr. Schuler,
I disagree. Your ARE someone "of note"! And, thank you for your kind words about a gentle man.
