Just Thought I'd say Hello. I'm 26, from Southern Indiana. Have loved radio since I was in my teens, living in central Indiana at the time knowing my family would be locating to the Louisville area, I started listening to WHAS at nights (Joe Donovan) and my brothers turned me to WLW where I found someone goofier than myself, Gary Burbank in the afternoons..so I recorded a few of his bits there in the mid 90's Over time I learned Gary used to be in Louisville and found out about WAKY. I was big into CKLW stuff and found out he was there to..Needless to say with my sense of humor Gary is one of my all time favs. Great collection here with the airchecks and jingles, history etc. I listen to 103.5 when I get annoyed with WalMart radio (Clear Channel) and even suggested WAKY pick up Earl Pitts since it's syndication. So I'm doing my part I guess. Anyways, Thought I'd say Hi, I've been over at the LKYRadio board a bit as I've been on a big WHAS kick lately. This place looks more lively.

Adam, many of us have participated in discussions here since the site's inception back in 2005, and by now have told just about everything we can possibly remember about the original WAKY. It's a lot quieter now, but still an incredible wealth of information which compliments all that can be found on the pages of the actual tribute site, itself. All anyone needs to do is take the time to look through the pages and enjoy the memories of what was once The Big 79, and if possible, add their memories as well.

Let's not forget the Mighty 790 where it started. ;D Yes, there was also 790 Color Radio and later Boss Radio. For me, it will always be the "Mighty 790".

Ben, I believe I came in about the time WAKY was known as "Boss Radio" and didn't do a top 40 countdown but rather a Boss 30 countdown. I even had a "Boss 30 Survey" sticker stuck on the door of my bedroom.
I am now reminded of when it was standard for WAKY jocks to open an intro, or come out of an extro, with the line, "W-A-K-Y. Music radio, Super79." That would actually work today with the new WAKY by saying, "W-A-K-Y. Music radio, One-Oh-Three-Five."
I now remember having mentioned this in an earlier post and someone responded by saying that the line had to be dropped for legal reasons. It may have even been you (Ben). If so, what on earth was wrong with WAKY using that line?

Perhaps they were calling themselves music radio during the time they ran 18 minutes of commercials an hour. Just a thought...
