One of the airchecks I added to the site recently was a 1973 aircheck of Bill Bailey apologizing to Chris Shannon (known today as Karl Shannon). I sent Karl an e-mail telling him about the aircheck, which contains our only recording of his on-air work on WAKY. Karl replied with "the rest of the story."
That was so funny! He was griping at me because I griped to Johnny Randolph about him coming in late every day. I was working 2 full time jobs: 7-midnight at WINN (country) and all nights at WAKY for about 6 months. I was out of gas.
Wellllll..my mom heard him knocking on me & called him and gave him a "piece or her mind." Needless to say, he apologized the next day....

Absolutely amazing! I listened to Karl Shannon many evenings on WINN (except when the Reds were playing) and it never occurred to me that he was rushing from the Fincastle Building at 3rd and Broadway to 558 River City Mall at the stroke of midnight to become Chris Shannon.
Its kind of like Jim Miller working at both WINN and WAKY.
It just reinforces the comments about the so-called glamorous life of an air personality and the low pay.
And I wonder if Karl ever does his Roadhog Moran impression anymore? Ol' Lester used to call in to Karl at WINN fairly often around 1975. Mighty fine...

It was because of Carl Shannon I went and bught the album, Lester "Roadhog" Moran Live at the Johnnie Mac Brown Highschool. I just loaned it to a friend to listen to. Yes I would flip over to WINN once in awhile if WAKY or KLO wasn't playing anything good. But anyway that should be a whole different thread.
