Before Paul Cowley, before Jack Sanders, there was Beecher Frank. He was the first big time rock dj in Louisville. I don't recall what station he was on, but he was the first to broadcast live from the roof of the Ranch House on Preston. He was the one who really got rock and roll radio moving in the area. Anyone else recall him?

Can't say that I've ever heard of a Beecher Frank. But, at barely 51 years of age, it's been a stretch just for me to keep up with names like Jack Sanders & Paul Cowley. In fact, my memory was pretty much at its limits when I recently wrote about having seen Jim Brand on WLKY's $50 Movie. Still, this is all very interesting. Can you tell me where the Ranch House was located on Preston, what it was near and what is there today?

As best as I remember, the Ranch House was in the vicinity of where Value City is today. Or at least in that neighborhood.

Someone once wrote, "you can never go home," and I'm reminded of that each time I visit Louisville. The city takes on dramatic changes with each visit. However, thanks for the info.

I remember Beecher Frank quite well. He was a deejay on WGRC radio (before it became WAKY). He had an afternoon radio show playing the top 5 on weekdays based on what was selling in the local record stores. Hope this jogs some memories.

Hey! Used to load up the 1949 Chevey with Fern Creek girls and guys and zip around the Ranch House on Shelbyville Road, across from what is now The Mall. "Beech" was cool in his day. Nice, mellow delivery. Never got excited. Just like those Fern Creek girls. Tom-Bob Watson, seven-ninety and out.
