To borrow from this week's TV Guide cover story, it was 40 years ago that the Beatles played Shea Stadium in New York that started Beatlemania 'American Style'. To read articles and stories from people who were either there that night or just remember that time makes me somewhat envious. And while I cannot relate to that time in rock history, as I was just a toddler, I do appreciate the solo music the four have contributed. So this thread is open to a wide variety of twists. First, similar to our songs and movies that make you think of WAKY, what Beatles tunes did you first hear on WAKY and to this day make you think of the Super 79? From those older than me, what are some of your stories from that time. What was it like to be a teen during that time? And I'd also like to hear from the WAKY jocks during that period. What was it like to have people begging for Beatles tunes?
And lastly, I'd like to hear from folks fortunate enough to be there at Shea Stadium.
Okay, since I obviously missed the Beatle era, I WILL start off my 'post' Beatle list of songs that automatically make me think of 790.
John Lennon-Mind Games & Whatever Gets You Through the Night (w/Elton John) Ringo Starr-Photograph & You're Sixteen Paul McCartney (& Wings)-Jet & Band on the Run George Harrison-This Song & Crackerbox Palace

I remember seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivav the second week they were here...thinking they were a way lot cooler than the way my dad was trying to describe them a week earlier by trying to comb my younger brothers hair in baines and all. My favorite solo hits from the Beatles after they broke up that remind me of WAKY are: John's Power To The People and Instant Karma Paul's second album "Ram" George' What Is Life and This Song Ringo's It Don't Come Easy and The No No Song (I think that was the title...It' been awhile since I heard it)

Sounds like an appropriate time to download WAKY's special presentation "Is Paul Dead?" which certainly had me examining album jackets and song lyrics at the time (Paul walking 'barefooted' (symbolic of death)across Abbey Road; license plate showing "28 IF" (28 if he had lived); Paul holding cigarette in right hand (he's left-handed) suggesting he had been replaced by some look-alike, etc.
What a fun time that was. Check out "Is Paul Dead?" under Documentaries on the Airchecks Page.
