Maybe some of you tech types can help out. I'm experiencing some sort of interference. The interference usually starts about 6:30 AM, and will last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. It occurs on both AM and FM. It occurs on both ac and dc powered radios. The interference manifests itself in what sounds like a blast of static about every 30 seconds and each blast is of about 2 seconds endurance. Just enough to notice. Anyone got any ideas how to track this down, or who to report it to?

I don't know what's causing it, but to help troubleshoot the problem you might try walking a battery powered radio outside of your house to see if the sound diminishes the further away you get from your home. Check your car radio too. Ask your neighbors if they're having the same problems.

I've already did the walk outside, and I can hear it on the car radio as well. I haven't asked any of the neighbors.

Bruiser: When you drive around, does it occur everywhere? In some parts of the country, there is a new service called BPL (Broadband over Power Lines). These services cause interference as a spurious emission in the VLF band specifically. Weather is also a factor in this. I have yet to see interference to FM. There could also be testing of an Experimental License that was issued, but still not in FM band. It could be anything ;D.

It seems that in the car the interference is in about a 1.5 to 2 mile radius. I know that in that area there are at least two cell phone towers, but I don't think they would broadcast in any frequency that would impact AM and FM. Yeah, the FM part is what is baffling. The FM interferences in not nearly as bad in the car, as it is with ac and battery powered radios. I thought maybe it was some kind of AC interference, but battery radios ruled that out. Of course if I'm trying to dx the AM band, it really louses everything up.
