I just heard that XM is going to do another WAKY tribute on the 60s on 6 channel on Terry Young's show on Friday, April 14, 2006 between 4 and 9 EDT. (Each Friday Young salutes one of the great Top 40 stations of the '60s by recreating their sound -- sort of -- with jingles, local references, etc.)
I don't know if this will be an all new show or a rebroadcast of the one done last year.
If you don't have XM, you can listen to a mid-fi stream through AOL Radio, which can be accessed through the free Winamp player (www.winamp.com). I don't have XM or AOL, but I check out XM every once in awhile using Winamp to see how they're doing.
I'll try to record the stream, but if there's anybody out there with a real XM radio who can record it digitally, that would be swell. :-)

Just wanted to say 'hello' here and that I am currently listening to the WAKY Tribute on (((XM))) and am drowning in a flood of memories of WAKY, the station 'I grew up with' as a teenager in the 60's in Louisville. This is so amazing to listen to on XM. I've been lurking here for awhile but the WAKY Tribute inspired me to add my experience here. I'm taping the whole tribute off of DirecTV on videotape, for the audio of course. I don't know if this a repeat WAKY Tribute or not as I've only been an XM subscriber since November '05.
Just a couple hours ago, Terry Young on XM took a 'request' call from someone in Louisville requesting the song 'You, I' by The Rugbys and he played it! Totally blew me away, as I used to see that band locally in Louisville quite frequently. That song totally left my memory for almost 40 years until I heard it just now! I'm not involved in radio, only as a listener, but was a musician at that period of time. WAKY kept me informed of the local music scene like no other radio station.
I've perused most of this site and really can appreciate everything here. Hearing Gary Burbank on 700WLW on XM is also such a pleasure to listen to again. Burbank was my fav DJ on WAKY. His comical characterizations and imitations were always hilarious. Nobody does 'Gary Owens' better than Gary Burbank!
Great job to all involved here and the posters for bringing back so many memories of WAKY and Louisville music scene.

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you along.
Did anybody else catch the April 14 WAKY XM tribute? If so, what did you think about it?

John, I caught the last part. Yes, I really enjoyed what I did hear. Yes, it sure brought back memories like this site does. The jingles really brought back the memories, along with the music and the way "Motor Mouth" presents it, like those good old days in the 60's. Duke & Dude, Yes we did have fun ;D in the KHLB at 5th & Jefferson.

This just in... Terry "Motormouth" Young will be doing another WAKY recreation from 4p-9p today (December 14) on XM Radio Channel 6. Don't have XM? You can listen for free here: music.aol.com/radioguide/xm_radio_guide. If you have Winamp (free at http://www.winamp.com) several XM channels (including the '60s channel) can be listened to easily though the Winamp Media Library (Alt+L). -- JQ

Just got an e-mail from a former Navy colleague who lives in Arizona and has come across the subject of WAKY and has even heard the XM tributes. He shares an opinion that few of us can deny:
What I can't understand is how a lot of radio stations can't see that the net is the future of radio. You don't have to have a big piece of land with expensive steel in the air for an antenna. Satellite might be part of the future and I have XM and love it but if you want to hear something, terrestrial radio is going to have to get a lot more local to get people to listen.
I can't speak for WIEL but I can tell you that there are way too many stations that are satellitors that don't serve the community
