Michael worked twice at WIEL in Elizabethtown before WAKY, which was in its latter days in the 80's. He worked at WIEL under two names, Michael Marvin and Harry Harrison. He's been at WASE for quite some time and I think they're hanging on to him!

According to the DJs page at 79WAKY.com, Michael Marvin was a part-time jock (Sundays and occasional fill-in) between late 1985 and late 1986. So the answer would be, "approximately a year."
To find out what other stations he's been at, you might want to e-mail him from the WASE Website.
"Harry Harrison" was, of course, the name of a very popular morning DJ at New York radio stations WABC and WCBS-FM,

Michael Marvin has been active in radio since at least 1974 when he was a jock on U of L's campus radio station. At the time, the station's letters were WXKE and it could only be received within the dorms, and other buildings on campus, via carrier-current technology, which utilized the power lines within the buildings to transmit to any AM radio which was plugged in or adjacent to the walls containing the power lines. WXKE could also be received on car radios when parked next to any street light on campus.
I've written elsewhere on this board about Mike Marvin and his wonderful photographic memory which has made him one of the most informative jocks on the subject of top-40 music, but after 2 years, or so, I'm beginning to lose track of where all my posts are located. Still, if you're willing to dig, you will find them.
It's interesting to note that the carrier-current technology which enabled WXKE to transmit over the power lines, to adjacent AM radios, may be coming back as a way to deliver broadband internet services to every home in America. The more things change, the more they remain the same (at least, in some respect).

Okay, let's see if I can make this really confusing...a little fuzzy about the dates, but here's the WIEL-WASE geneology: In 1950 Bill Harris was the first GM of WIEL, followed by Walter 'Dee' Huddleston in 1952. He remained there until 1973, when he got out of radio and into politics, when he was replaced by Bill Walters. While Bill Walters was GM, WIEL was top notch through the mid 70's, then WQXE and FM took their toll. While GM, Mike Baldwin was in Sales and Mike Marvin was a jock. Somewhere during the 70's, Bill left WIEL to go elsewhere. Now there was an AM station in Fort Knox called WSAC (WKLO's Bo Brady did a hitch there,) that spawned an FM station WSAC-FM (WKLO's Rip Rinehart did a gig there). Those call letters changed to WWKK (K-105) and both were operated by Byron Cowan. Sometime during my time out of state in the 80's/90's, the AM side went away, Bill bought the FM and called it WASC, which evolved into WASE. Oh and Bill, Mike Baldwin, and Mike Marvin are still under the same roof.

I THINK I REMEMBER A BILL WALTERS DOING AIR TIME BACK IN THE SIXTIES ,COULD IT BE THE SAME ONE? Maybe...maybe not. To my knowledge most of Bill's radio career has been in E'town. But since he was managing WIEL in the 70's, it could very well be he did some air time in Louisville and elsewhere before moving 'upfront'. Realize, though, that's a fairly common name, but I noticed he became a registered user of this board a few months ago...maybe he is willing to shed some light.

It is indeed amazing to me the talent that went to (and in some cases came from) WAKY after having passed through the E'town vicinity: - Gary Guthrie-Sonora native (in Southern Hardin County)
- BJ Koltee (Richard Upton)-WIEL, WQXE
- Michael Marvin-WIEL
...and those who came the opposite direction: - Bill Evans-Overnights 1964 to WQXE (GM)
- Michael Marvin-Part time 80's to WASE
...and in the name of fairness: - Bo Brady-WSAC (Fort Knox) to WKLO
- Jackson Smith-WQXE to WKLO

...and I guess in total fairness:
Travis Hardwick (Senior Member)-WQXE
I think Travis (help me, buddy) was a WAKY groupie (Terry Meiners style) before going to WQXE and then WQMF.

Just in case anyone's interested, a pre-103.5 aircheck of Mike's from 1980 can be heard on the airchecks page of www.1400wiel.com, when he went by the airname of Harry Harrison. He had a more laid back delivery back then. The aircheck is as it was sent in, meaning the start is filled with old spots which I left in for nostalgia's sake.
