I read the CJ article about the WAKY site and had to check it out. While crusing through the site I remembered a bit that Gary Burbank started but I don't remember if it was a WAKY thing or something from his later stint at WHAS. Can someone tell me how and when Burbank started the snowshark bit?

I grew up listening to WAKY---I do remember the snowsharks --I think it was a Waky thing when the weather got snowy in Lville---of course that was a loooong time ago.

Burbank was at WHAS when he did the snow shark bit. It was during one of the big snows in the late seventies.

Gary developed the idea for snowsharks during the BIG snow of 1977-78 (don't remember exact month) at WHAS. Something like 18" of snow fell overnight. Gary was on his way to the station when he noticed what looked like (to him) a shark's fin sticking out of the snow. From his first on-air bit, WHAS began posting reporting daily snowshark sightings, a song "Ol Sharkie's Back In Town," was recorded (using Mack The Knife). WHAS even put up a "Listen For Snowshark Alerts" billboard that rotated around Louisville for months. Even into Summer. Quite a fun time!
