You all over it Max, way to go! And with the retro ticket prices this should turn out to be a terrific party. The Headstones are really good. (Gary Claggett and Danny "Mouse" Amos on guitar, Park Crane on bass, David Burgess on keys, Pat Cardin on drums and Mike Bigelow is the vocalist.) I've seen them perform 3 times now and they just get better each show. I got to practice with them one Saturday afternoon and I gotta tell ya, these guys are GOOD. They decided to learn the old J J Jackson tune "But it's Alright". They played an mp3 of it on the computer and then everybody went to work figuring out their parts. David even found the Glockenspeil sound on his keyboards. There is a lot going on in that song and within 15 minutes they went through it for the first time and nailed it! I was blown away! They put on a rowdy show and have fun with it. Work your way up front when they do "Wooley Bulley" and you might get a Wooley Bully. Mike Bigelow throws out wooley bully stuffed animals and the crowd loves it. These guys played all over the place back in the day and if you like old time rock n roll you'll love the Headstones. And 3 Dog Night is still Great. I saw them a couple of years ago at the Brown Theatre in Louisville and they really kicked butt. I'm looking forward to this one. L

For the local yokels, I noticed one more place where tickets can be bought-at the State Farm Insurance office of T.J. Rhoades on West Dixie, across from St. James.

At this time, the firework show after the concert is unclear, as there is a ban on burning in E'town:
"[City Fire Chief] has issued a ban on open burning in Elizabethtown effective immediately, due to the dry conditions. This ban will be in effect until further notice. No person shall light or maintain an open fire at any location in Elizabethtown while this ban is in effect."

Talk about a mixed bag of good and bad luck...due to a new job (and a good one at that), my work schedule will keep me from seeing the concert this Friday ! I hope everyone has a blast at the Lake...the big names don't come to our parts very often, unless they're country . (There wasn't a puking face for me to use...I can't get a break! )

...and a few days ago, after a day and a half of sometimes heavy rain, the burning ban has been lifted, so I would suspect the fireworks will go as scheduled.

Did anyone on this board make it to the concert? It'd be nice to hear some thoughts, especially for those of us unable to attend!

I had an interesting conversation last night as my wife and I visited with one of our neighbors. It turns out they went to the concert and they were sharing with me some of the sights and experiences. While he didn't really give a 'concert review', he did say the music took him back...and apparently the people did, too. He said there were so many who showed up decked in 70's attire (some, he said, should NOT have still been wearing polyester!). He said there were some in their 60's who were still acting like they were in their 20's. They struggled to get out of their lawn chairs, but once up commenced to dancing...one group of people danced to ev-e-ry tune!
He also shared with me that he had grown up on the corner of Park Lane and Mantle, one street over from Joan Avenue, where most of the members of the Headstones grew up. He said alot of the time he could hear them practicing. He then told me how they came up with their name. The story goes that one day they were batting around names and since Joan Avenue runs adjacent to one of the cemeteries in town, they looked over and thought of the Headstones, and, well, there ya go.

Still can't imagine hearing Three Dog Night without Chuck Negron on lead vocals. It's like Steppenwolf without John Kay or Blood Sweat & Tears without David Clayton Thomas. Lead vocalists are a signature sound for most groups. Still, it's nice to know that those who attended the concert enjoyed it.
Three Dog Night, and others, perform on the cruise ships that pull out of Miami for Jamaica, Martinique and wherever. What's really neat is that since everyone is packed together on these ships, you can mingle with various members of these legendary bands during the cruise when they're not performing.

Actually, I think Johnny looks good for his age. He's on the tall & thin side, but you can't go wrong there. On his first day on the new WAKY he joked that had he known he was going to live this long, he would have for sure taken better care of himself. But he looks to be in fine shape to me.
WAKY 103.5 certainly displayed a lot of pix from the Headstones / Three Dog Night event, but why was that one picture of Les Cook playing guitar displayed backwards? I was surprised to see that Les plays guitar and then even more surprised to see that he plays left-handed. But the image is merely reversed.
Sir Paul McCartney will be so disappointed. ;D
