Just got off the phone doing an interview with WAKY's first DJ, Ricci Ware. He was the guy that launched WAKY by playing "Purple People Eater" in 1958. (Yes, despite what Billboard reported at the time, it was "Purple People Eater" by Sheb Wooley and not "The Purple People Eater Meets The Witch Doctor" by Joe South that was played -- for not a day, but 48 hours. Now we know!)
Lots of great stories. Can't wait to edit it and get it posted.
BTW, Ricci left WAKY after a few months for KTSA in San Antonio where he's been on the air for nearly 50 years.

Yes. He's been at KTSA since the late '50s. His talk show airs daily from 9a to 11a. His son, Trey, is also in the business, doing mornings at the same station. www.ktsa.com/

Jack Sanders pulled the "strike" for a while. Kept playing "The Mummy". Now let's see how many remember it being a different song.

Assuming he has no WAKY aircheck, does he have any vintage San Antonio airchecks? A poor second choice but perhaps interesting to hear.
