Great Stuff on both this and the WKLO website. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading, listening, and learning.
I think it has been great that all of the contributors to date have been willing to share so all of us can hear what made Louisville radio special in the first place.
I listened to WAKY more in the "Oldies Station" era, so I enjoyed the Bob Moody and Liz Curtis airchecks. And I definitely think of the Hiney Winery Commercials when I pass the Waddy/Peytona exit.
But my first love is country music, and my memories are mostly of WINN (Hence the ID I selected). I really enjoyed getting to hear the real B.J. Koltee (one of the great WINN DJs of the 70's) on the aircheck here.
And it was neat to see that Moon Mullins had been in touch with John Quincy. Some of the talk on this website is about what a great job Coyote Calhoun has done at WAMZ, but Moon Mullins put together one heck of a country station at WINN. His DJ staff, which included Koltee, Dickie Braun, Karl Shannon, Al Risen, and Bucks Braun, was fantastic. And his playlists were not just cookie-cutter national Top 40 country.
(Off topic question--Does anyone have a year-end WINN survey from 1968-1979 that they would be willing to scan and share? I am interested in how the local Top 40 fared against the national top 40 of that year. I have 1974 and 1975 that I could trade.)
And the WHAS stuff was great, too.
I'm sure that John Quincy is exhausted (emotionally, physically, and financially) from the effort in setting up WKLO and WAKY as websites.
But wouldn't it be totally cool to have a Louisville Radio Website with WHAS, WINN, WTMT, WLRS, WAMZ, WRKA, and all the others added to the mix?
All of us have things we could share (maybe some more than others). I would gladly offer my meager collection (none of which fits with the WAKY and WKLO sites) if interest ever warrants an expanded site.
Any thoughts?
