I received this e-mail from Bob Frey. I didn't know the answer so I'm tossing the question to y'all:
I didn't see Sonny Limbo in the list of early DJs. Wasn't he at WAKY? I remember he had a limmerick contest and the winner got tickets to the Kenwood Drive-In. I remember this because I won once with the following limmerick (which is still in my head after 40 years): There once was a guy who was funny So he sent in his limmerick to Sonny If it's used on the air He can drive his Bel-Air To the Kenwood with his pass and his honey

Bruiser, He was there probably before your time. ;D He was there during the Jim Brand days. I vaguely remember him, and do not believe he was there that long. Jim Brand mentioned him on his interview.

I wish he was there before my time, as I remember when WAKY signed on, lol. He must have not been there very long.

Ben (bpflederer), when did you start at WAKY? You don't look old enough to have been a carry-over from WGRC.

Bruiser, No, I was not a carry-over from WGRC. I arrived in '64 and the fun times on the 5th floor at the Ky Home Life Building.

Ben, it was I who asked the question. Still, I envy that you joined WAKY at the time that you did. I have long felt that I would have loved being a jock at the Big 79 from '65 to '75, but I was born a bit too late. Bill Crisp probably wouldn't have hired me, anyway. I believe you had a birthday last month. Hope it was a good one. If you were not a carry-over from 790 WGRC then you can't be too old; not that being a carry-over from WGRC makes anyone really, really old. As long as you were not with WGRC back when it was first founded by George Rogers Clark.

Sorry about the Travis . It must have been a senior moment ;D. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Yes, it was a good day. I know that Wick Morrison, Bill Hall, and maybe Doc, were at WGRC. I do not know about Charlie Newman who was also in Engineering in the those early years. It was still fun on the 5th floor at 5th & Jeff.
