Wow! You'll be in E-Town this month? Guess it's wise to make such trips now while gas prices are still a bargain at $3.80 a gallon. I've been working on a vacation budget to get me to WAKY's 50th celebration in July, but my calculator keeps coming up with overflow errors. Someone on TV suggested parking the car and using a bike to get around, so I'm now working on how long it would take to travel 900 miles from Venice, Florida to Louisville. So far, the answers suggest that I should have started the trip long before now. Best wishes on pulling off another great guest appearance on WAKY. Just be sure you have the old skimmer running so that all may check out the results on this web site.

Well, I was coming to Kentucky anyway to attend my neice's wedding in Lexington. So I figured I'd skip a couple of meals (which I need to do anyway!) and splurge for the extra gas to head to E-town. It was a real thrill last year and I'm hoping for more of the same, especially since I haven't been on a music-formatted station since October.
Hopefully they can record the show at the station, but if there are any volunteers who can roll back-up airchecks (FM mono is fine), that would be great.

How was your last guest appearance recorded? And where is Michael Lewis Griffin these days? He has made much of what can be heard on this site possible.

What you hear on the site of my last WAKY-FM appearance is a composite of recordings made by Max, Leonard Yates and the folks at WAKY-FM. I spiced together the best parts of each of the three.
Mike Griffin is still around. He made some WAKY airchecks last week for me, some of which will appear on 79WAKY.com soon.

If I'm home that slot, I will be recording, JQ.

You're sounding great, John! Unfortunately, due to problems on my end, I wasn't able to get recording until a quarter past the hour. Hopefully, Mike, Leonard or even the station caught the first 15 minutes. I'll edit it this weekend, burn it to CD and have it in the mail to you PDQ!

Thanks for the good words Max -- and for doing the airchecking.
I had a great time (again). Thanks so much to Les Cook, Bill Walters and Rene Bell for the opportunity to channel Weird Beard and classic Coyote Calhoun for two hours. Of course, I blamed Mason Dixon for the board goof-ups -- one of them, anyway!
Hopefully I'll a chance to do it again.
A scoped version of my latest WAKY-FM excursion will be posted on 79WAKY.com soon.

The pleasure is all mine, JQ. Tracking you and tweaking these recordings feels like one step away from working with you. You are a natural and are like a kid in a candy store (almost like Cornholio)! ;D Like last time, though, with the way they run the boards they make you sound sometimes as if you're competing to be heard against the computer. Heck, whoever is doing the weather almost always seems to be competing with that infernal "bop-bop-bop-bop...bop! bop! baaaa..." bed. Too bad they wouldn't let you do like the old days and just rest your hand on the pot and adjust you OWN levels, so that John Quincy is the focal point and not the computer. You are certainly hands down our WAKY ambassador, as I believe there is no one else who loves that legendary radio station and has poured their life into it like you. I look forward to hearing you again, my friend.

Thanks Max.
This time, like last time, I was running the board. Any level issues are my fault. It was probably me not running the mic hot enough since I didn't touch the three faders that WAKY's Scott System plays through, mainly because I didn't want to turn down the wrong one!
However, it's my preference to be more down in the music than other jocks. I always admired John Landecker at WLS and that's how he sounded...but if you can't hear what I'm saying, then I'm down TOO much.

Then I stand corrected, John Jock's preference I guess!
