I may be able to search this website for the answer, but I thought someone could help me with a question about the voice I hear frequently on the new WAKY. It's the little character you hear say WAKY very often between songs. Was this something used on the original WAKY? Is this just some synthesized voice or a real person who's had his or her voice electronically modified?

Although I've not listened enough to the current incarnation, if it's the same one used in the 60's it could be Rudy Ratfink, aka, Ben Pflederer. If it isn't, it could be most anyone who has sat down and recorded themself and then varied the pitch. That could have been done locally or through a client service. Come to think of it, I believe I have heard a rather high pitched "WACKYYYYYYY!"

It's part of a WAKY PAMS jingle that was originally recorded in the early '60s. The effect is created by recording a voice on reel-to-reel tape -- say, at 7.5 ips -- and then playing it back at double speed (15 ips). That's how the chipmunk voices on the Alvin & The Chipmunk records, TV show and movie were created, as well as the voice of the "Purple People Eater".
Now that reel-to-reel tape machines are almost extinct, you can easily duplicate the effect in computer-based audio editing programs like Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro).

Max, John is correct, that part was on one of the jingle packages during the good old days ;D. Yes, Rudy was modified. The proceedure is sort of like what John mentioned, except he was not "doubled" over. Rudy was never doubled over, maybe felt like it sometimes . Oh, the good old days in the KY Home Life Building!
