While going through Bob Jannsen's tapes, I came across a music list typed on WAKY stationery that listed a bunch of songs from the '60s. Next to "THIS GIRL IS A WOMAN NOW by GARY PUCKETT & THE UNION GAP" is a note that says "Gary Puckett and the Union Gap broke up after their concert at this '69 Ky. State Fair 16 August 1969. This was one of their last songs together."
Anybody ever heard that their last concert was at 1969's Kentucky State Fair?
I e-mailed someone at Gary Puckett's official Website and inquired if this was true -- as it would be cool if it was. The person who replied said their final concert was indeed in 1969, but the location was the Hollywood Bowl.
Or maybe they broke up after the KSF show, but played more shows that year to fulfill contractual obligations.
Wikipedia says the groups was together through 1971, but you can't believe everything you read on the Internet.
Another interesting thing I found in Jannsen's tapes: his original FCC First Class Radiotelephone license, issued in 1973.
