RIP Alex
I saw The Boxtops many years ago. It may have been a WAKY promoted show.

The Box Tops were a Memphis group and I had the pleasure of knwing Alex Chilton and the rest of the band. I was the first DJ to play 'The Letter". Alex was very gifted and will be missed, Dude Walker

Alex was only 16 when The Box Tops scored their first hit "The Letter" which went to #1 in 1967. They were popular here in Louisville having several songs in our local Top 10 that were only moderate national hits including "Sweet Cream Ladies, Forward March", "Neon Rainbow" and "I Met Her in Church". Sorry to hear he passed away so young.
