I've never really found a forum to relate this true story and maybe this is even stretching it a bit, but it does involve: Louisville, WAKY and a (brief) evening out in that city some years back. The story is true and, as such, I will just use the first-names of the people involved. I wasn't there for what took place, but did hear about it related by the guy it happened to.
Ron was from Louisville and attended a college in Kentucky during the week. One weekend, he brought a friend from college named Jim home with him for the weekend. Ron got his girl friend, Linda, to get a date for Jim so they could double. She contacted her friend, Brenda, who agreed to fill that role.
The evening looked great. Ron and Jim picked up the two girls and all four got into Ron's car with WAKY playing on the radio. Ron was with Linda in the front and Jim and Brenda were in the back. Jim did notice Brenda was chewing gum which, of course, wasn't unusual. The reason behind why she had gum in her mouth came a short time later.
Ron and Linda were longtime steadies so almost right away she put her arm around him and there were some quick kisses. In the back, Jim put his arm around Brenda, but as he started to kiss her, Brenda blew a bubble with her gum which was now obviously bubblegum (most likely Bazooka). Maybe she just likes to blow bubbles, Jim thought, but as he tried to kiss her again, Brenda blew another bubble until it popped. Jim tried again and then again, but each time he did, Brenda was quickly blowing a bubble to thwart his advances. That's how it continued to go. Jim finally had enough and began to make some not-so-nice comments about Brenda and her bubblegum. She said nothing in return, but just sat and continued to blow and pop bubbles. The only sounds in the car were the music of WAKY and its DJ and the pops of Brenda's bubbles. Apparently, she had some second thoughts about going out with this college guy she had never met and rather than cancel, she used her bubblegum defense so as not to be kissed. As you might imagine, it was a shorter night than expected. Maybe you could refer to it as a "Wacky Night". (The pun IS intended, but remember, this is a true story).
Just an observation: It has always seemed to me that in Louisville almost all of the girls - even the very attractive ones - enjoy chewing gum, particularly bubblegum. Along with blowing a variety of bubbles, they also don't hesitate to snap and pop it. Here's to them. Louisville is always a nice place to visit.
