I just got through listening to that, and it was surreal to say the least. The guy that had to pull the switch on WAKY to make it become "Beautiful 790" must have felt like he was killing a Louisville legend.
WARNING: The WLRS of today, is just a cheap immitation of WLRS in the 80's. Listen at your own risk.

Yeah, I was that guy!
Thanks, John, for posting the "last hours" tape. It certainly brought back a lot of memories. That final "79-seconds" was a VERY LONG wait!
I wasn't so much concerned about killing a living legend as I was about the affect on those talented people who poured out their hearts and sweat to keep WAKY alive. New ownership literally cast those people to the wind. Ownership was not concerned about WAKY's history ... they only viewed it as a dying AM station. They cared only about the bottom line. The bottom line, at that time, was on sister station WVEZ-FM. All promotional money and sales efforts were being poured into the New Lite & EZ 107 FM. Everyone at WAKY was in kept in a twist during those days.
Fortunately, a large percentage of the WAKY talent of those days have continued in radio with great success. I'm very proud to have worked with them and happy I still get to hear them on radio today.
