Besides WAKY and WKLO, what were some of the other bigtime AM stations? I have seen quite a bit written about WINN, and I remember WAVE 970 was fairly big around here at one time. I have talked to some older folks who listened to WTMT, were they really a big player in the old days?
WTMT went to sports talk for quite a few years, and I listened to it quite a bit, but last I heard it was playing spanish music. 790 is now a WGTK and is a talk station, what is the former WINN now playing?
Let's talk about the giants of AM radio in Louisville ky, during the 50's, 60's and 70's. ;D

Behind WAKY and WKLO, just about everyone else was fighting to stay out of last place. WHAS and WAVE were the other two biggies. WINN was behind them. WTMT and WLOU just barely made a blip in the ratings. 790 is a sports talk station these days, and the home of the Joe B. and Denny show. RJC, ESPN radio can be heard at 1570.

790 is a sports talk station these days, and the home of the Joe B. and Denny show. How ironic is it, that both 790 and 1080 are now both owned by Clear Channel? Kids today won't give those frequnecies a second listen, but 30 years ago, they were the king of the dial. ;D

Got that right, RJC!! Fat cats like Clear Channel don't give a hoot about what listeners want to hear. They just buy up stations and put whatever they think will bring THEM the most revenue! It'd sure be nice if stations were again privately owned by people who actually care about the reason for radio in the FIRST place.
