What a great tribute to a great old station that takes me back to my childhood!! I can remember every night going to bed , turning on my "new" AM radio to WAKY and falling asleep to some guy named Coyote Calhoun !! Then, each morning while getting ready for school I listen to Bill Bailey and his antics. What fond memories I have of the very early 70's and this station that was , to many, THE only station.......what was FM anyway??!!

Marshal, I am turning myself in...the charge? Abandoning not only the greatest station in Louisville, but THE GREATEST STATION IN THE WORLD! And for what? WQHI Hi95 (FM). Oh, the shame of it

I moved to Jeffersonville, Indiana with my parents and younger sister back in '67 from GA. As a young teenage girl I was miserable until I found the greatest radio station in Louisville, WAKY, and the wild and goofy jocks that made listening to the radio the "cool" thing to do. Met the Weird Beard at a weekend dance @ Ewing Lane School in Jeff and was instantly in teenage lust. He was cute, goofy and had the greatest sense of the bizarre. We became friends and the following summer I got a job at the Taco Rancho Restaurant on 4th Street in Louisville, when I got off work I would always take tacos to the station and hang out. Sometimes get to sit in the booth while he did his shows. I wondered for years what happened to him when he moved from Louisville and today stumbled across this site and read about his passing. I am saddened that he is no longer sending out his energy live but I'm sure that he's out there somewhere with a green beard grinning.
