Hey John.
I just donated to the website but I am wondering if I should sue you. Why? Because since I came across this website a week ago I have been in La La land. You have sent me back to 1972, man, and I don't wanna come back. I have been in a daze thinking of those days.
At work I have been surfing your website and dreaming of the days when WAKY and KLO were in the background all the time. The days when summer months were defined by the songs the stations were playing. I distinctly remember sitting in my car one hot summer day and hearing Coyote screaming at the top of his lungs. It was awesome.
I loved going to the department stores and getting the latest top 40 surveys (man, I didn't even remember those things until I visited the website) I would scan over them and check out the tunes before I would buy my 45's. "Popcorn" and "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" and "Hold your head up"
It was great.
My friends and I would play DJ with my phonograph --we would pretend to run a radio station like WAKY and we took turns being DJ.
My friends had an uncle that owned a bakery or coffee shop (can't remember exactly) but they got to take Bill Bailey a cup of coffee in one morning and he mentioned them on the radio. I was jealous.
Seriously, thanks for the trip. I know the world was just as screwed up back then as it is now, but those were golden years for a 12 year old kid, and WAKY and WKLO were always there. God bless them all for helping make Louisville a great place to grow up.

Hi Kevin...
Thank you so much for your generous contribution -- and for the nice words!
Because of folks like you, we'll be able to keep the memories of two of the greatest radio stations of the '60s and '70s alive.
Those truly were magical times. Feel free to drop by and relive them anytime!
Thanks again...

Kevin, you'll find there are alot of us that share your memories and passions! "Long Cool Woman..."-now THAT was CLASSIC! Hard to think of that as an oldie, as it still gets mucho airplay today! That was one of the first songs I heard when I discovered WKLO and then WAKY. That was the summer of, as you said, 1972...the summer of 'Rocket Man', 'Saturday in the Park', 'Nice to be with You', 'Beautiful Sunday' and 'Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me'. Man that was indeed a breakthrough year for alot of us. Glad to have you 'aboard' to share YOUR memories of 'radio as it used to be'. With music and radio going the direction it has for the last 15 years or more, it's great having a 'safe place' .
