During the early '70s, Johnny Randolph did an afternoon radio show on WAKY. The show was only 2 hours in length, running from 1 to 3 PM (between Christopher Lundy and Gary Burbank) but Johnny was program director at the time and the show may have been his way of experiencing, first hand, the very formatics which he required of his jocks.
I could have it all wrong, but what better way to gauge what the jocks are going through, as they work under YOUR formatics, then to operate under those same formatics, yourself, for an hour or so a day. Right or wrong I'm sure Randolph made modifications to his formatics as a result of that 2-hour afternoon show. Oh, and something called ratings. ;D
Anyway. Johnny Randolph generally closed that 2-hour show by saying something like, "Johnny Randolph reminding you that no matter where you go... there you are." He didn't say that every day but enough that it became a staple, at least with me. I even have reason to believe that he was closing with that line during his days at WKLO.
Over the past couple of years I've learned that Johnny has done an incredible amount of moving around since his days at WAKY. Danville, Huntsville, Nashville, Roanoke, Evansville and now Pikeville. Not all may be listed, and not all are in that order, but still...
Considering that Johnny Randolph generally ended his show with "No matter where you go... there you are" did he somehow know his future? Was he psychic? Or did it all just have something to do with that cheap bottle of Elderberry wine (mentioned in a Dude Walker aircheck). ;D
Perhaps, someday he will break his silence and let us know. However, Pikeville, Kentucky, has yet to discover telephones (let alone internet access) so it may be a while. Stay tuned.
