Have I told you folks how much we appreciate ya for listening lately?? I have also never seen so much activity on the rate-a-record (thumbs up/down) this week! Records are moving up and down, in and out of the Top 10 this week! Should be interesting to see who remains...and who reigns!!

Looks like the delayed second installment of WAKY Fast Forward will finally get off the ground, with Dude Walker taking a look at Chicago! Production begins very soon.

Dude's narration was recorded tonight and mixed and the Chicago edition of WAKY Fast Forward is online as of tonight. The America edition is no longer running, but will be added along with the Chicago version to the WAKYOnline Homepage in the near future.
Thanks again to Dude Walker for getting back in the saddle and also to Steven Lee Cook who has agreed to host a future edition!

The America edition is no longer running, but will be added along with the Chicago version to the WAKYOnline Homepage in the near future. Links to both have been added to the station's homepage, accessible at the link below. Just look for the WAKYOnline Menu. Depending on your browser, they may take a couple of minutes to download.

To calm the nerves of our listeners the dB levels of all tracks will soon be leveled out. Meaning you will no longer be blown out of your chair by "Mamma mia, that's a spicy meatball!"

Just FYI, we're setting aside a Saturday in January to take WAKYOnline off the air for less than an hour to finalize standardizing all levels. We're leveling now, but in order to do the most at once, we have to go off the air. We'll probably do as many at once as we can and get back on the air and do the rest afterwards.
Thanks!

The good news is this won't have to happen (going off the air). We've been able to adjust the levels as we go and think most of the dB levels are set. It helps also that we are setting the levels to new additions before upload.

This e-mail received just today from Bobby Bowman of Louisville:
Hey, I just found this station and man does it bring back memories. Camping out in the backyard with my friends and listening all night long. One Christmas I got one of those grape colored transistor radios from Radio Shack. I remember countless nights with that under my pillow falling asleep to WAKY. Thanks for putting this station together.

Received this e-mail from Bobby Bowman 2/14/07:
Max, I had to email you about a funny coincidence pertaining to Bill Baily. Here at Southeast, Ready Electric has two electricians that work here to take care of our electrical additions and problems. They are installing projectors and screens in our large fellowship hall. I was listening to Waky on line and put it through our main sound system so they could have some music while they worked. They were blown away by your station. We talked about how we grew up with Waky. One of them said his grandfather was the head chef at Kuhn’s restaurant ( not sure of the spelling?) and he used to take breakfast over to Bill Bailey all the time and when he was a little kid, his grandfather use to take him to see Bill on the air. He was asking about Bill and where he is now. Do you know if he still lives in that nursing home near Crestwood, Ky? We both live near Crestwood. Does he still have visitors?
Thanks for all the great music and memories
Bobby Bowman

WHOOPS!!! For those Hot Chocolate fans who have been befuddled as to why Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" plays when the Player Window says "You Sexy Thing", the confusement is over. Somehow our hard drive dubbed Gloria onto Hot Chocolate, playing Gloria's hit twice as much. The problem as of this morning has been rectified.

Okay, we're gonna add a dumptruck full of the 50's & 60's for our more 'experienced' listeners! Music by:
The Coasters Brenda Lee Jerry Lee Lewis Bobby Darin Sly & the Family Stone Ricky Nelson The Chordettes The Everly Brothers The Platters The Elegants Teddy Bears Johnny Tillotson Connie Francis
...as our near future still remains uncertain at the moment, we want to make sure we maximize whatever time we still have online by trying to reach ALL fans of WAKY 1958-1982, despite our main genre being listed as the 70's.

*Attention! WAKYOnline will be unavailable Tuesday June 26th, as Live365, our carrier, and other stream providers will be observing a 'day of silence' in protest of the unfair proposal by the Copyright Royalties Board to disproportionately increase royalty fees paid by internet broadcasters. Our sister station, Oldies1400 Online, will also be unavailable. We really regret this inconvenience, but this was a decision made by Live365 and one over which we have no control, but we will see you the 27th!! - MH*

Interesting statistic I've noticed over the last two months is that a large portion of our listening audience has shifted to the 'beyond' portion of those we serve. This may be due to WAKY-FM's appearance, coinciding with us having to go offline for a few days (a regretted yet unavoidable move). We haven't gotten all our Louisville listeners back, evident in reduced streaming in the Louisville area, but are experiencing a pickup in coverage across the country. The Duke told me at our last visit he was told by some Louisvillians that the new station is still not available in some portions of the city. I don't know if he (or they) was/were referring to before or after the acquisition of the tower in Indiana.
I also admit that in the last few months I've given more attention to my other internet station, but there should be some new material both on the website and WAKYOnline in the coming months.

We've added two more items to our homepage, 1) A photo of the tower array (that will have to do until we can get out there), courtesy of Scott Fybush at www.fybush.com and 2) a page with the interview we did with Juanita Potter, who runs the Ollie's Trolley at 3rd & Kentucky. Hopefully, we'll be able to add the Ollie's article to this site. Log on at www.goatley.com/highbaugh/wakyonlinehomepage.html and check 'em both out!

Some of you may remember me having batted around an idea for WKLOOnline. That has been on the backburner a good while, but sometime in the new year, WKLOOnline will be sharing space with WAKYOnline, sharing not only music, but interspersing vintage WKLO airchecks right along with WAKY airchecks (some jocks having done both), along with station specific jingles/spots. Initially we will continue to run just WAKYOnline liners until we can get some KLO jocks to help us out with new liners of their own. No airdate as of yet. I know like high school grudges, there may be some people offended by having to share space with the 'competitor', but I think after the successes at the past reunions, we can get past that! Coming in '08!

After gaining some very learned advice, the merger is on hold. The reason for the sudden backstroke is that we want to devote an entire station to both powerhouses, so as not to confuse the listeners. However, we are not able to do this at the present time.
So, as before, we are exclusively WAKYOnline. Complete reversals should be done within the hour.

We got the following e-mail January 5, 2008. Names are being left out to keep his surprise a surprise: Hi Max, I live in Seattle and am on a quest to find this old WAKY album - or at least one song on it (WAKY Stand Back-We Just Cut An Album). (I know I'll likely strike out, but here's what I'm up to...) I teach a seminar along with a guy named ___ (who still lives outside Clarksville, IN). (He) plays guitar and maybe sings on a song on this old vinyl record. I'm not sure which song, so I'm hoping his wife might remember since I'm trying to keep this a secret from him. He was one of the guys in one of the bands. As a joke, I thought I'd try to find the song he plays on and use the song in a variety of ways during the digital audio class we teach together. I hope to demonstrate a variety of audio ncoding qualities by playing it back in full 16-bit, 44.1 kHz audio [pops, clicks and all], then I'll encode it in increasingly worse qualities (wav, aiff, mp3 with lower and lower bitrates) until it sounds like a record that you used to cut off the back of a cereal box. I may even record it at 24-bit 192 kHz just for the futility of it!
Anyway, since I'm not familiar with Louisville record stores or what places might horde such an old gem, perhaps you could point me in the right direction? Your help is much appreciated!
Thanks!
SteveSteve was in luck, as we have that album (it's shown on the promotions page on this site) and the song in question was one we've had on our playlist. We sent him a copy and he's on his way! Unfortunately, I had better keep the song and the band incognito for his project's sake.

If all goes as planned, the August/September timeframe may see the return of WAKYOnline, just in time for her 3rd birthday (Aug/Sept 2005)...
...we'll keep you posted.

WAKYOnline will be back online in the next 24 hours. We are presently assembling our music library and tonight will upload jingles, airchecks and liners. The URL will be www.live365.com/stations/originalwaky and as of now this will be the only web address...wakyonline.com was snatched up by some lady's site regarding teacup yorkies... sheesh...

We are now streaming, albeit in somewhat of a generic guise...kinda in a silent mode without any station ID's. Those will be added tonight.

I think it rather humorous that, after contacting the new owner of the wakyonline.com domain, she offered to sell the domain for a 'reasonable offer'. And being from Australia, she may or may not know the history of those legendary call letters and I imagine if she did she'd feel she was disgracing the name...but...oh well, here was my response:
No, Larissa, no point in selling the domain, as I have already made other plans. By the way, you had made a comment in your first response that should settle the issue of how many 'hits' I had when you said it had, and I quote, "good page rank". The legendary WAKY of 1958-1986 had enormous popularity in the Top 40 era and, much like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, seems to be enjoying a resurgent popularity since going away, due to 79waky.com, WAKYOnline and the new WAKY 103.5.
See WAKY 790 AM, in her heyday did what few other stations could do, with programming and an extremely talented and versatile on-air staff as well as promotional department. In addition the popularity of her jocks was of such significance that the competition, either locally or across the U.S., sent agents to check them out, record them and try to lure them away. So when the above three entities, in that order, surfaced and brought WAKY back to the forefront, those that remembered the station, especially ones who grew up listening to it, felt reason to celebrate and relive their memories with newfound friends. As the WAKYOnline listeners are scattered across the state, nation and world, I truly wish you luck with your domain. Who knows, we could very well have a common ground, as there could very well be WAKY listeners who appreciate teacup yorkies.
Best of luck... Max Highbaugh Program & Music Director WAKYOnline 14WIEL Online
