Wow! If WAKY was still on the air today it would probably be owned by Cheap Channel Communications and that would most likely be my prize, indeed. By the way, thanks for the info regarding the origin of Sputnik Monroe's name. That dinky bleeping Russian satellite had more of an impact than history will ever reveal. Gotta run.

Starting this week, the WAKYOnline Weekly Top 10 will also appear on WAKYOnline's new messageboard at wakyonline.proboards106.com! Congratulations to Dude Walker for being the first WAKY disc jockey to make the Top 10! You're in good company, Dude...Wolfman Jack charted with the Guess Who (Clap for the Wolfman) and Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids (Did You Boogie with Your Baby), as well as Rick Dees (Disco Duck). That's not to say the Wolfman charted with Rick, but rather Rick was another DJ to score a hit. Did any other DJ's take part in hit records?

I could have swore that Tall People came out earlier than '77.

Unless Randy Newman's "Short People" was a parody of the Duke's, it was '77 or '78, as Billboard has Randy entering the charts December 1977.

Max, I'm trying to make time to listen to WAKY online. From the looks of your weekly top ten lists you play a wide variety of titles. I like that. Keep the dream alive man. L Actually, wasn't that exactly what WAKY did?? Johnny Randolph saw to that and as the Duke said in one of his interviews, "WAKY was not a Top 40 radio station...man, we played any darn thing we wanted to...", meaning rock, pop, country cross-over-you name it. We cannot call ourselves WAKYOnline and just play a certain musical genre or focus on one generation...we did at first, but it wasn't long until I realized that WAKY was "everyone's radio station" (Dude Walker) and WAKY meant something to everybody, so to be a tribute station and to stir everyone's memories, you have to make a connection with everyone. We've even gone a bit further in our attempt to reconnect folks with the past by including period soundbytes. When you can check us out, I hope you find a memory you can claim as your own. That's what we do...that's what we're about. WAKYOnline...serving Kentuckiana-and beyond.
